Dudley Wood Primary School and Pre-School
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Dear Families,
I have been made aware of the ongoing water issues in the areas around school. A water main in Cradley Heath has burst, meaning some properties in DY2 have experienced low pressure or no water, including Dudley Wood Road. I have been speaking with families and staff who live closest to school. They have reported that the issue seems to have been resolved. However, the waterboard are yet to confirm that the water supply has returned and will remain as normal.
At the moment, we are planning to open school as normal and children are expected in.
In the morning, Mr Chance and I will be heading into school early to check how our school supply is and assess whether school can open. I will send you a text message as early as I can to inform whether we can open or not. Should we need to close, home learning will be provided on our website or on Seesaw. Further communications will confirm this when we know for sure.
Thank you for your understanding. I wanted to give you all as much notice as possible, just in case you need to have a backup plan for childcare.
Mr Beacham
After lots of family feedback, we are re-introducing our club offer. For clubs to run, a small charge will need to be included. Teacher clubs will be charged at £1 per week. For clubs run by Richard our specialist coach, we will charge £3 a week. Clubs are allocated on a first come, first served basis. Richard will send letters for his clubs separately to the appropriate year groups.
If you would like to reserve a place at one of the clubs, please make a payment on your ParentPay account. Clubs will go live on Friday 19th April 2024 at 10:00am. For clubs with limited numbers a first come first served basis will apply. Once the places have been filled you will be unable to book through ParentPay.
Please read the attached letter full details.
We are excited to announce that our school's Sustainability Committee is once again launching our battery collection initiative! This time around, we're adding a fun twist: a year group competition.
Starting today, we encourage all students to bring in their used batteries to their classrooms. The more batteries they collect, the greater chance their year group has of winning fantastic prizes!
The competition will run until Wednesday, 12th June, so be sure to gather up those old batteries and send them in with your child. Not only will this help us contribute to a healthier environment by properly disposing of batteries, but it will also teach our children about the importance of sustainability and recycling.
Let's work together to make a positive impact and show our commitment to preserving our planet for future generations.
Thank you for your support,
Miss Gellatly and the Sustainability Committee.

Hi,
The Year 2 team have asked me to send a message to all "me hearties" in Year 2. They have requested that the children dress up in pirate-themed clothes on the first Monday (8th April) back. This is a hook into their new English units of work so the children can be immersed in all things piratey. This is a little surprise for the children.
We understand that costumes can be expensive. I have uploaded some ideas for how to create your own pirate costume.

Hi all,
I cannot believe we are already at the end of another term - it certainly has flown by.
This week has been filled with activities, including maths workshops and a disco!
Thank you to all our families who bought tickets for the disco. The children loved having the opportunity to boogie the evening away. It was great to see all the children having some fun. The purchase of tickets are raising funds for us to purchase some playground equipment - thank you so much!
In other news, today's marks Mr Miller's final day at Dudley Wood. Mr Miller has been at Dudley for ten years. He started off at Dudley Wood as a caretaker and has been running our school office for the past two years. I'd like to thank him for his dedication and hard work. I know you'll join me in wishing him the best of luck on his next adventure.
That leaves me to wish you all a lovely half-term break. We look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 8th April.
Mr Beacham
On Wednesday 20th March, Year 6 parents were invited to a KS2 SATs meeting. If you were unable to attend, or would like to see the presentation again, please click the link below.
The school is aware that there have been some issues around the sale of tickets for the PTFA discos on Thursday, and this has been distressing for some parents and pupils.
Please be aware that this is not a school event and it is being managed by the PTFA.
School do not have any tickets for sale and cannot take payment for tickets.
In response to concerns raised the PTFA have reopened ticket sales for ONE DAY ONLY on 20th March.
The only way to obtain tickets is to message the PTFA directly via their Facebook page. Please act today to avoid disappointment.
Here is a link to the Facebook page to order your tickets by using the Message button.
On Tuesday, our Pre-School to Year 2 children had a very special visitor join us to deliver an assembly. Bernard delivered a workshop that featured his baby dinosaurs! The children loved bringing their learning to life and finding out more about dinosaurs.
Bernard is delivering another Live Dinosaur Show (see below for more details).

Thank you to all our families who attended Mrs German's Maths Masterclass yesterday. It was great to see so many of you all there. Mrs German's workshop included how we teach Maths at Dudley Wood and the expectations of each year group. We hope you found it useful.
Some quotes from evaluation forms…
“This session was very useful. It was good to learn how to do equations and how vocabulary has changed.”
“Seeing SATs papers was helpful as it allows us to get an idea of what is expected of our children at that age.”
“It gave us a good insight into how Maths is taught at DWP and what to anticipate for the future as our children progress through school.”
“I can finally do long division!”
