    Wed 02 Oct 2024

    Dear Parents and Carers,

We are pleased to invite you to participate in a workshop designed to support your child’s reading development. These sessions will provide insights into how we teach reading and phonics at Dudley Wood and offer practical strategies to enhance your child's learning at home.

If your child is in Reception, Year 1, or Year 2, you are invited to attend a phonics workshop led by Mrs. Brown.
For parents and carers of children in Years 3, 4, 5, or 6, Mr. Warrington will be leading a reading workshop.

The phonics workshop will begin with a 10-minute presentation from Mrs. Brown, outlining the phonics teaching methods used at Dudley Wood. This will be followed by a 20-minute interactive session where you and your child can engage in a variety of phonics games, which can easily be played at home to reinforce learning.

The reading workshop will commence with a 10-minute presentation from Mr. Warrington, explaining how reading instruction progresses after phonics. You will then have the opportunity to join your child in their reading comprehension lesson.

The dates for the workshops are as follows:
    • Monday, 14th October: Years 3 and 4
    • Tuesday, 15th October: Reception
    • Wednesday, 16th October: Year 1
    • Thursday, 17th October: Year 2
    • Friday, 18th October: Years 5 and 6

The workshops will begin at 9:05 a.m. Please wait on the playground after dropping your child off. At 9:00 a.m, we will open the doors and bring you to the hall.

We look forward to seeing you and working together to support your child's reading journey.

If your child attends Pre-School for afternoons only and you want them to have their photo taken, please bring them to school at 8am for their photo. The company will need to leave at 1pm and we don't want any of our afternoon children missing out. After, please take your child home and bring them back in at their usual start time.

    We need your newspaper!

We are planning for a very exciting whole school sculpture project that will happen in the spring term. To make this happen we need tons of newspaper.  For every bag of newspaper a child brings in, Miss Horton will award them with 5 Dojo points!

  • Positive Handling

    Thu 19 Sep 2024

    Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you are all well and have had a smooth start to the beginning of term!

As school staff, some of us are trained in ‘positive handling’, which are techniques that can be used to de-escalate children when they pose a physical threat to themselves, others or property. Alongside strategies to diffuse situations, this also includes safe restraint in the event that this is required (this is always a last resort in order to keep people safe).

Our training provider has offered to deliver a session that is tailored to parents, focusing on the same content, but aimed at parent/child relationships.

In order to check that this is viable, we have been asked to estimate the number of attendees. The training will be held at Wychbold School and there will be a cost of approximately £30 per attendee. We will be in contact at a later date with some proposed dates.

If you are interested in this training, please indicate via the form below. We will be collating numbers on Thursday 26th September, so please complete before this date if you would like to attend.
