Dudley Wood Primary School and Pre-School

Pupil Power

At Dudley Wood Primary School we provide many opportunities for our children to have a say in how their school is run because we believe their voice is fundamental in shaping Dudley Wood for the future.

As a senior leadership team, we want to ensure that our children are able to share their ideas and opinions, we want them to be confident, self-assured individuals and we want them to develop skills that they will take with them into adulthood. Have a look below to see some of the different types of Pupil Power roles across Dudley Wood.

House Captains

We have eight house captains at Dudley Wood who lead our four house teams - Chainmakers, Navigators, Miners and Nailmakers. All the children from Reception to Year 6 are split into these four teams.  The house captains support the teachers as they help to:

  • Organise Inter-House competitions, during the year, across the year groups
  • Manage the suggestions box - report findings to Senior Leadership Team
  • Attend School Council and Parent Voice meetings
  • Help run achievement assemblies
  • Organise the Headteacher and Deputy Head book borrowing scheme
  • Organise and over-see lunch-time clubs for children from Reception to Year 6
  • Organise Playtime Buddies
  • Feedback to School Council meetings.

Mental Health Ambassadors

Children were nominated by staff to promote positive discussions surrounding mental health. We recognise that we are all different and have different mental health at times. They are here to support the development of Mental Health discussions across the school. They meet termly to discuss what we can do as a school to be more aware of our mental health.

Sustainability Squad

We have a team of children who are passionate about developing sustainability across our school. This links directly to our curriculum, with sustainability at its heart. The children in this group are responsible for:

  • Meeting with teachers to find out how we can be more sustainable
  • Run and organise competitions
  • Come up with ideas of bringing further sustainability into our curriculum
