  • Recommended Reads

    Tue 28 May 2024

    Good afternoon,

I'm currently analysing feedback from our Reading survey for our Advocates and many of you have requested a list of recommended read list for your child's year group. I have included a list on our website: English - Reading |  If you scroll down to near the bottom you'll see each year group's list. I will share further updates on what other things we're going to do when we return.

    Enjoy your half term.

  • Late Arrivals & Medical Appointments

    Tue 21 May 2024

    Good afternoon everybody,

We would like to remind you, registers must close by 9:00am each morning. If a pupil turns up to school after this time without a valid reason they will be marked as unauthorised lateness- this WILL impact on the overall attendance record for a pupil.

Our school hours are 08:40am- 3:10pm Reception- Year 4 and 8:40-3:15 years 5 - 6.  If a pupil is being picked up early, we need to be made aware of this in advance with a valid reason.

National statistics show that poor time keeping seriously affects a child's chance of achieving their full potential. Arriving late may mean that you child misses important instructions for the day and can lead to feelings of isolation and disengagement from learning.

Missing 5 minutes each day in a school year is the same as missing 3 whole school days! Missing 15 minutes each day in a school year is the equivalent to missing nearly 10 whole school days!

Medical appointments are to be made outside of the school day or in school holidays. If this is not possible then pupils should attend school before and after the appointment. Should an appointment be made within school hours, evidence should be shown to office staff to authorise their absence and the pupil must be signed in and out at reception.

    Thank you

    The Office Team.

  • Update wb 13.5.24

    Sun 12 May 2024

    Good afternoon everybody,

It seems that summer has finally arrived - I hope you've all managed to enjoy the sunny weekend. Now it is warming up, I'd like to remind our families of our uniform policy. Summer uniform is as follows:

    • Black or grey shorts
    • Red summer dresses
    • Normal school polo t-shirt
    • School shoes

Children can also wear a hat and bring suncream which they must apply themselves. For health and safety purposes, please do not send children to school in sandals.

To our Year 6 children, tomorrow is the start of your SATs. This is a chance for you to shine and show us what you're made of.

You’ve worked your socks off this year through,

and now the time has come.

    By this time next week,

You can say, "phew, the SATs are done".

Make sure you get plenty of rest tonight and have a nutritious breakfast. We'll see you tomorrow morning, at 8:40.

Year 6 parents and carers: The planned date for the leavers' production and party is Thursday 18th July at 17:30. More information will follow.

    See you tomorrow,

    Mr B

  • Monday 22nd April

    Sun 21 Apr 2024

    Dear Families,

I have been made aware of the ongoing water issues in the areas around school. A water main in Cradley Heath has burst, meaning some properties in DY2 have experienced low pressure or no water, including Dudley Wood Road.  I have been speaking with families and staff who live closest to school. They have reported that the issue seems to have been resolved. However, the waterboard are yet to confirm that the water supply has returned and will remain as normal.

At the moment, we are planning to open school as normal and children are expected in.

In the morning, Mr Chance and I will be heading into school early to check how our school supply is and assess whether school can open. I will send you a text message as early as I can to inform whether we can open or not.  Should we need to close, home learning will be provided on our website or on Seesaw. Further communications will confirm this when we know for sure.

Thank you for your understanding. I wanted to give you all as much notice as possible, just in case you need to have a backup plan for childcare.

    Mr Beacham

  • School clubs - summer term 1

Please read the attached letter full details.

  • Big Battery Hunt

    Wed 17 Apr 2024

We are excited to announce that our school's Sustainability Committee is once again launching our battery collection initiative! This time around, we're adding a fun twist: a year group competition.

Starting today, we encourage all students to bring in their used batteries to their classrooms. The more batteries they collect, the greater chance their year group has of winning fantastic prizes!

The competition will run until Wednesday, 12th June, so be sure to gather up those old batteries and send them in with your child. Not only will this help us contribute to a healthier environment by properly disposing of batteries, but it will also teach our children about the importance of sustainability and recycling.

Let's work together to make a positive impact and show our commitment to preserving our planet for future generations.

    Thank you for your support,

Miss Gellatly and the Sustainability Committee.

  • Year 2 only - Pirate Dress Up Day

    Sun 24 Mar 2024

    Hi,

The Year 2 team have asked me to send a message to all "me hearties" in Year 2. They have requested that the children dress up in pirate-themed clothes on the first Monday (8th April) back. This is a hook into their new English units of work so the children can be immersed in all things piratey. This is a little surprise for the children.

We understand that costumes can be expensive. I have uploaded some ideas for how to create your own pirate costume.

  • End of term news

    Fri 22 Mar 2024

    Hi all,

I cannot believe we are already at the end of another term - it certainly has flown by.

This week has been filled with activities, including maths workshops and a disco!

Thank you to all our families who bought tickets for the disco. The children loved having the opportunity to boogie the evening away. It was great to see all the children having some fun. The purchase of tickets are raising funds for us to purchase some playground equipment - thank you so much!

In other news, today's marks Mr Miller's final day at Dudley Wood. Mr Miller has been at Dudley for ten years. He started off at Dudley Wood as a caretaker and has been running our school office for the past two years. I'd like to thank him for his dedication and hard work. I know you'll join me in wishing him the best of luck on his next adventure.

That leaves me to wish you all a lovely half-term break. We look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 8th April.

    Mr Beacham
