Dear Parents,
In connection with our geography work this term on rainforests and plant adaptations, an educational visit has been planned for Year 4 to Birmingham Botanical Gardens where we will explore the Rainforest and meet live animals.
The visit will take place on Tuesday 7th March. We will leave school at 9:15 a.m. and travel by coach and return to school for 3:15pm.
In order that the visit may go ahead we are asking for a voluntary contribution of £12 per child.
Each child will require a packed lunch (no bottles or cans please) in a named plastic bag. Those children in receipt of free school meals can be provided with a lunch if required.
We hope this will be an enjoyable and stimulating day for the children and thank you in anticipation of your support. Please log into your ParentPay account to book and pay for this trip.

It is with the greatest of pleasure that I am able to share with you that Mr Jon Beacham has been successfully appointed as the future Headteacher at Dudley Wood Primary School.
Mr Beacham is already part of the Rivers family, currently working at Heronswood Primary School in the role of Assistant Headteacher. He is looking forward to joining Dudley Wood and will write to you soon to introduce himself to you.
I know you will join me in both congratulating Mr Beacham and welcoming him wholeheartedly to Dudley Wood.
Our next walk is taking place on Friday 10th February in Children’s Mental Health week. This year’s theme is “Let’s Connect”. We hope the walk will encourage people to connect in healthy, rewarding and meaningful ways. The walk will be on the field at the rear of the school.
If you would like to join us for the walk, please meet us on the field at the following times:
Reception & Years 1 & 2: 9:10am
Years 3 & 4: 9:40am
Years 5 & 6: 10:10am
Please send your children with a change of shoes for the walk - wellies, boots, trainers, or sturdy shoes would be great!
If the weather is wet, we will postpone our walk - we will text you to let you know.
We took part in the NSPCC Number day on Friday 3rd February. We celebrated maths across the school and every child was a mathematician, taking part in mathematical challenges and solving problems. Well done to you all! Across the Rivers C. of E. Academy Trust we have helped to raise awareness of the most valuable work of the NSPCC.
We celebrate times when behaviour demonstrates our STARS values. In each class there is a display of the 5 STARS values: Sharing; Trust; Achievement; Respect; Safety. Names or photographs of our children are moved from around the edge of the display into the star when their behaviour demonstrates our values. This is celebrated with the child, and we take time to talk to the children so that we are sure that they fully understand the meaning of the value. Children’s photographs and names can move from one star to another throughout the week and the target is for every child to have their name in a star by the end of the week. This is then celebrated as a class and our younger children have a star sticker!
