At Dudley Wood, we are very focussed on improving the lives and education for all our pupils.

Since our inspection in 2022, the following measures have already been taken:

  • Little Wandle Phonics Scheme implemented, along with staff professional development. This has resulted in 81% of our children achieving the expected standard in the 2023 Phonics Screening Check. We're still refining our approach to this to improve outcomes for all our children.
  • Introduced Whiterose Maths and Mastery in Number programme to ensure we have strong progression across the school.
  • Implemented a reading scheme to ensure children continue to progress in reading after Phonics.
  • A focus on developing our writing scheme further so that children make good progress with their writing knowledge and skills.
  • Implemented a revised foundation subject and Early Years curriculum, developed with experts from across Rivers Trust.
  • Alongside all these, staff professional development has been at the heart of our improvements. The quality of teaching has significantly improved.
  • Staff have also been upskilled with adaptive teaching techniques so that our most vulnerable pupils, including those with SEND, are able to make good progress.
  • We have also introduced an Early Years and Key Stage One extended continuous provision class as well as a Key Stage Two targetted provision class. These classes are led by specialist staff for children with SEND.
